Michele Zago Architetto Lugano

archiCREW

Michele Zago was born in Venice in 1978 and graduated with honours in Architecture from IUAV, where his education developed within the cultural environment shaped by figures including Vittorio Gregotti, Alberto Ferlenga and Carlo Magnani.

Between 2002 and 2004 he collaborated with Carlo Magnani in Venice on large-scale urban and public projects, including work related to the MoSE and the Ferrara city plan. From 2005 to 2013 he worked in Lugano with Luca Gazzaniga. The move from Venice to Switzerland progressively brought together two complementary attitudes: the disciplinary culture of the architectural project and the constructive precision of Swiss and Ticinese practice.

In 2015 he completed a postgraduate specialization in construction supervision at SUPSI the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, extending his practice into construction management and project management. His work has continued to investigate housing, hospitality, alpine contexts and urban transformation, with particular attention to the continuity between design decisions and their built realization.

In 2018 he established michele zago architetti in Lugano. He is registered REG A and OTIA since 2006 and is invited to lectures, seminars and workshops in Switzerland and abroad.

Architecture is approached as a continuous responsibility from the first studies to the construction site. Design, technical development, cost and financial control, project management and construction supervision are integrated within the same process.

The studio works primarily in residential architecture, hospitality, sports, interiors and masterplanning, in Switzerland and selected international contexts.

From the beginning, the crew has included:

  • Monica Zanoni, senior architect and head of executive design, project management, and construction supervision
  • Elisa Beretta, senior architect with international experience specializing in managing German-speaking projects, from initial studies to architectural and construction details
  • Valeria Mastranzo,  architect who oversees executive design and construction supervision.
  • Marco Pesta, architect, scenographer, digital entrepreneur, manages marketing, communication strategy, and branding.

Over the years, the group has expanded with other architects, partners, and collaborators who manage specific projects and specialize in highly contextualized fields: among them, landscape design, urban planning, interior design, executive planning, construction supervision, and project management.
